Join us on Wednesday nights as we study through the gospel of Matthew.

Meet our Student Pastor

Garth Farmer is originally from Lexington, South Carolina. He grew up in a Christian home and he and his family were very involved in their local church. Despite growing up attending church, it was not until the age of 17 that Garth truly came to understand the depth of his sin and his need for Jesus.

After high school, Garth felt the call to study the Bible and so he attended North Greenville University where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Studies. While at North Greenville, Garth met his wife Emily. After graduating in April of 2015. Garth and Emily got married and moved to Louisville, Kentucky for Garth to pursue a Masters of Divinity at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Garth and Emily became members of FBCF in December of 2015 where they became regular volunteers in the student ministry. In the summer of 2021 after serving as a volunteer, Garth became the Student Minister. Garth is now bi-vocational, working at both Chick-fil-A and FBCF and Emily is a stay at home mom to their 1 year old Liam. They love working with and serving the students at FBCF and are excited to see how God will change the lives of students in Fairdale in the coming years.

Our student ministry meets every Wednesday at 7pm and every Sunday morning at 9:30am.  Our Student Ministry is for anyone from 6th grade through 12th grade.  We would love for you to join us.

Our approach to Student Ministry

Gospel

“Gospel” literally means “good news.” Here at First Baptist Church, we believe that the gospel is the centerpiece of all we do.  The good news is that people who have disobeyed the one true God can be made right with God through the blood of his son, Jesus.  This belief permeates into our student ministry.  Our student ministry is focused on the gospel and applying gospel truth to students lives.  We believe the gospel is the ultimate answer to all of life’s questions, so it is our practice to seek God through the words of the Bible each and every time we gather together.

Community

Our lives as Christians are not meant to be lived alone.  God has created us as social beings who need human interaction.  We also believe the Bible teaches us that we need one another to continue pointing each other to Jesus as we walk through life.  One of the ways we work to make this happen is by being intentional to build relationships between adult leaders and students and help students build relationships with one another that will help them in their walk with God.

Mission

God has given us the task to make disciples.  This sounds like a difficult and daunting task, but God has equipped all believers to carry out this task by filling us with the Spirit.  We believe that followers of Jesus, no matter what age they may be, should be doing the work of making disciples.  For students, this typically happens in friendships they have at school or in their neighborhoods.  We encourage students to live on mission and to share the good news of Jesus with everyone they can.
