“Over the Hill” by Harold James

December 11, 2011 No Comments

Tomorrow marks the 97th birthday of Harold James, First Baptist Church Fairdale’s oldest living member. During worship this morning, Mr. Harold shared a poem he wrote when he was 90 years old. Below is the the text of the poem, which was a blessing to the entire church.

Though I’m over the hill,
I’m on my way up
The Lord paid the price
when He drank the cup.
Youthful days, they are past.
My eyes have grown dim,
But Christ points the way,
and I’m trusting in Him.
Now each step I take
as time seems to fly,
I’m nearer, yes nearer,
to my home up On High;
And then some sweet day
when I reach my new home
I’ll join with God’s children
as we sing ’round His throne.
