Advent Books 2011
November 23, 2011 1 CommentLast year our church began placing a greater emphasis on the Advent season.
Christmas is such a rich and meaningful Holiday for all believers in Jesus Christ. For we believe that God became a man, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified on a cross, and was raised to new life. Well the beginning of that was Him becoming a man and being born. That is what Christmas celebrates– God coming to us so that He could lovingly die for us.
One of the ways we focused on the Advent was by each Sunday morning during the Advent Season (There are 4 Sundays total from the Sunday after Thanksgiving all the way until Christmas day.) we asked a different family to come forward in the service, light the corresponding candle, and then read the connected passage of Scripture. We found this to be a special touch to our worship service and advent devotions.
Another way we focused on the Advent was by putting together our very own Advent Devotional Guide. One of our deacons headed up this project. He titled it “Promises Kept” and chose 4 themes (one for each week): Promise Needed; Promises Made; Promises Anticipated; and Promises Kept. Then he asked various men and women in our church to write short daily devotionals to go along with the matching Scriptures and themes. We had these printed out and given to everyone in our church. It is a very meaningful booklet for our church members to have not only because of the devotionals and focus on the Advent, but also because they were written by our very own people.
Here is a picture of what the Advent Devotional Guides look like. If you or anyone else would like one of these Advent Devotional Guides, please contact our church office. We would love to give you one.
These things are ways that our church is attempting to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and treasure up the depth and fullness of the birth of our Savior!
