February 2010 Newsletter: Work Hard!
February 17, 2010 No CommentsThat faithful brother and example of ours, the Apostle Paul, wrote to the Christians in Thessalonica a command: “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.” (2 Thess. 3:10)
The church in Thessalonica was struggling with having many members who were idle. They were lazy. They weren’t focused. They weren’t united. They weren’t driven. In other words, they were not doing what they were supposed to be doing. They weren’t working hard for the cause of Christ. And Paul was not afraid to tell them how it is. They were not helping at all. They were not glorifying God with their lives. They were not contributing to the cause.
Church, I do not want this to be the case for us. We have a large mission to accomplish, and it is going to take all of us. By the power of God working in us, there are many people still to be saved in this city. There are homes to be redeemed. There are marriages to be restored. There are debts to be paid. And there are sins to be forgiven. There are children who need to find them a loving church to grow up in. There are teenagers who need to find them a youth group to belong to. There are adults who need to have their lives changed. And there are whole families who desperately need to be in church. There are so many great things that the Lord Jesus is yet to do here in Fairdale.
Church, we need to have this at the front of our minds. It needs to be on the tip of our tongues. We need to be working hard for the cause of Christ and His Church in Fairdale. What are you doing about it? Your time, your money, your words, your phone calls, your letter writing, your conversations, your prayers, your meals, etc. are all contributing to what God is doing and is going to do here.
The Bible is loaded with verses that speak of God’s children working hard. Will you join with the rest of us and begin to work hard? Will you determine in your mind to work hard? Will you settle in your household to work hard for God? Will you see the ministry of the cross as most important and work hard toward the end of seeing many in our community coming to worship the one who died on the cross?
