September Newsletter
September 7, 2009 No CommentsDear Church,
What a joy it is to be a part of a church! To belong to the family of God, and therefore have a group of people that are striving along with you to love and serve Jesus more. God has made us. He has redeemed us by the death and resurrection of His son Jesus. He has filled us with His Spirit. He has given us new lives and new hearts and because of that we are now changed. And He has made us His very own people… He has placed in His church. In a nutshell…God loves us, and He loves us a lot. He loves us more than we know.
When I begin to think along these lines, about the love and goodness of God toward us, my heart is filled with desire and longing. I feel deep a desire to love and serve God in return. That is the natural response to God….Worship! We love Him because He first loved us.
And then I wonder how we are doing in this area? What is our response to God’s love and goodness toward us? If we could know, what does the world see from us? Or better yet, what are the people of FBC Fairdale known for? What is the impression we leave upon our community?
I’m reminded of the church in Berea in Acts 17. Among their missionary travels, Paul and Silas were sent to this town called Berea. As soon as they arrived there, they were struck by the apparent difference among these Christians. The Bereans “were more noble than those in Thessalonica.”(17:11). Wow! Can you imagine missionaries coming to our town or church and being immediately aware of the fact that we are different? That we are more noble?
What was the reasoning behind this noble image that was experienced by Paul & Silas? Well, the verse continues on “they (the Bereans) received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”(17:11)
Incredible! A church of God that was so committed to the Word of God that missionaries were impressed by their devotion. What are Fairdaleans known for? What impression do visitors take from us? Are we noble? Do others clearly recognize a radical commitment in us to knowing God’s Word. I pray that we Fairdaleans would be well known for many of the same reasons that those famous Bereans were in Acts 17.

Josh Greene
